| Pacific Northwest R Gruppe event: Baxter's Historic Races
July 12-14 Portland International Raceway, Portland Oregon Let me start by saying that, with the exception of Gary Emory's 356 Outlaws and a couple of very serious Can-Am cars, the car corral was the place to be for this event. When the Porsche 917/30 wasn't on track, leaving cars as serious as a late UOP Shadow in its wake, the excitement was in the R Gruppe area, headed by Randy Jones' spectacular, 3.2 liter, Iris Blue beauty. We didn't get to see it on track, but we did get to see the aerodynamic qualities of a magnetic 'Tour de Cambria' decal at 90mph from Keith Jones' beautiful blue '73 911T (hint-they don't fly well, but they do shatter spactacularly when hit by my front spoiler). Also attending were Tom Wilkinson's flawless, Tangerine '73, and on Saturday, Paul Donkin's beautifully original Irish Green 911S. Seattle member Mike Reischl drove on track, and won his race in a Speedster. Doug Skinner attended, sans car. Member #228, 1973 911T Article & photos copyright David Schultz 2002 |
